A LUCKY man from Basildon has been made a millionaire after matching five numbers and the bonus ball on the National Lottery's Lotto.

The lucky winner has been a loyal Lotto player for some time, often choosing to play his own set numbers and a Lucky Dip each draw.

It was the latter which landed him the life-changing prize of £1million on Saturday, June 28,  after buying the ticket in-store.

After winning, he immediately bought three bottles of Champagne to celebrate with his loved ones.

Speaking on his win, the anonymous man said: “I couldn’t believe it. I had to ask my wife to ‘slap my face’ in case I was dreaming. It’s wonderful that we can now help our family.”

Andy Carter, senior winners advisor at Allwyn, operator of The National Lottery, congratulated the prize winner, saying: “We are thrilled for our lucky winner from Basildon.

“His commitment to playing the games over the years shows how one’s fortune can change any moment. A huge congratulations.”

The lucky numbers from the Lotto draw on 28 June were 16, 17, 22, 38, 40, 47 and the Bonus Ball was 4.

Players can buy and check their tickets online by downloading the National Lottery app or at national-lottery.co.uk. They can also buy and check tickets in retail.
