AN AWARD-WINNING Brentwood restaurant is expanding their opening hours to welcome guests on Mondays in the run up to Christmas.

Due to the popularity of the latest Yuletide menus, the seafood restaurant will now be welcoming diners on both Monday December 15 and December 22, when the restaurant would typically be closed.

Ajay Barak, owner, said: "I said a few weeks ago that we were planning the biggest and best Christmas yet, and I'm pleased to say that due to unprecedented demand we have decided to open on Mondays in the run up to Christmas.

"It's a first for us, which is very exciting, and of course we will be offering and serving our special lunch and dinner menus to guests, as well as our renowned a la carte selection."

The restaurant in Navestock Side, near Brentwood, launched their festive season with a spectacular Christmas lights display and carol concert on November 18.

The festive set lunch menu costs £44 for three courses, or £38 for two courses with sittings from 12 noon until 2.30pm. Starters include grilled octopus, heritage beetroot and John Ross’ oak smoked salmon.

For mains, as well as the traditional Norfolk bronze turkey, there is a mouth-watering chilli and coriander battered monkfish, Guernsey skate and Miso Hake.

Scrumptious desserts include Spiced Sticky Toffee Pudding, Pecan Basque Cheesecake, traditional Christmas Pudding and Ginger bread Crème Brulée.

Other choices include John Ross Scottish Oak Smoked Salmon, Octopus Carpaccio, King Prawn Cocktail, and Heritage Beetroot with goat cheese labneh and candied walnuts. For mains, choose between West Coast Hake and Tiger Prawns, Wild Sea Bass or Angus Steak and Salt Marsh Lamb Rump.

The restaurant is already fully booked for Christmas Day but there are still limited tables available of Boxing Day at £100 a head, and New Year's Eve at £150 a head.

Now employing 65 full and part-time staff including 15 chefs, Alec's Restaurant opened in 2010 and has established itself as one of Essex's leading fish restaurants, attracting customers, not only from Essex, but from all over.

The restaurant is loved by Basildon's own Denise van Outen, who revied the venue as offering an "exceptional experience."

Alec’s was also voted the Travellers Choice Awards Winner by TripAdvisor, ranking the popular eatery among the top 10 per cent of restaurants worldwide based on reviews and ratings.
