AN award-winning show returns to the Cliffs Pavilion for another stint amid a farewell tour.

Back by overwhelming demand, Ellen Kent's production of the award-winning Madama Butterfly is coming to Southend this March.

Theatre company Senbla presents Ellen Kent’s Farewell Opera Tour featuring Opera International Kyiv, Ukraine, with highly-praised soloists and a full orchestra.

One of the world’s most popular operas, it tells the heart-breaking story of the beautiful young Japanese girl who falls in love with an American naval lieutenant – with dramatic results.

Highlights include the melodic Humming Chorus, the moving aria One Fine Day and the unforgettable Love Duet.

The production returns with exquisite sets including a spectacular Japanese garden and fabulous costumes including antique wedding kimonos from Japan.

The show also won Best Opera Award in the Liverpool Daily Post Theatre Awards.

"Above all it was a production which captured the raw emotion at the centre of the opera. Don’t take a handkerchief with you, take a box," said The Independent.
