An episode of a popular Channel 4 show featuring a couple from Essex which ended in emotional circumstances has has aired.

Kirsty and Phil's Love It or List It sees Phil Spencer and Kirstie Allsopp go head to head as they battle it out to help homeowners decide whether to love or sell their home.

The latest episode which aired on January 14, featured Karol and Richard who had been living in their three-bedroom bungalow in St Osyth for 18 months.

The pair who had been together for eight years shared a love for rock and roll dancing, but were divided over their home, with Karol wanting to move and Richard wanting to stay put.

Early on in the episode, Richard, who was 67 at the time of recording, spoke of how he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer at the age of 60.

He hinted that his cancer was in an advanced stage with it "going further than they would have liked it have gone".

Richard was undergoing therapy at the time to try to stop it spreading.

The episode showed them looking for a bungalow within their £525,000 budget which was suitable for Richard's needs.

Phil was in charge of finding alternative homes for them to potentially move to - showing them three properties.

The first was in Great Bentley, then Clacton and finally Colchester.

Kirstie was in charge of renovating their St Osyth home with a budget of £60,000 to see if Karol could be persuaded to stay there.

Towards the end of the episode with a decision still not made, Karol was still open to the idea of moving but Richard wanted to see the finished product after the renovation work.

Richard said he had not changed his mind and Karol said she still didn't love it and was concerned that further work still needed to be done.

At the end of the episode, Kirstie delivered some sad news.

She said: "Very sadly, only seven months after Phil and I last saw them, Karol let us know Richard had died."

Phil said: "We send love and want to say thank you from the bottom of our hearts for sharing your story with us."
