A musical version of one of the world’s most popular science fiction novels is coming to Essex in 2026.

Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version of The War of The Worlds will arrive at the Cliffs Pavilion in Southend on Wednesday November 4, 2026, as part of a UK-wide concert tour.

Created by composer Jeff Wayne in 1978, the iconic rock opera is based on H.G. Wells’ classic tale of a Martian invasion and features a powerful blend of rock music, orchestral arrangements, and narration.

Jeff Wayne said: "It’s a great thrill to announce that a special concert rendition of my original double album is to tour the UK in October next year — a first of its kind on our home shores.

"Performing at concert and theatre venues, it will give the audiences a different perspective of my musical version, stripping the ‘spectacle’ of my arena tours back down to its foundation — the music."

The 2026 live tour was first announced in November 2025, but additional dates and venues, including the Cliffs Pavilion, have since been confirmed.

This concert-style production will feature West End performers backed by a live band, orchestra, and animation.

It marks 20 years since Jeff Wayne first began touring his musical version in the UK, with the inaugural performance taking place in April 2006.

The 2025 tour included appearances by Busted’s Charlie Simpson, The Wanted’s Max George, actress Maisie Smith, and even a holographic appearance by Liam Neeson.

Tickets for the 2026 show range from £30 to £195, with a maximum of six tickets per customer.

Under-14s must be accompanied by an adult (18+).

VIP packages are available, including front row seats, exclusive merchandise, and tour programmes.
