A GARDEN centre owner inspired by the beautiful fields of Holland is bringing the “magic and colour” of tulips to Essex this spring.
Scott Bird, owner of Scott’s of Southend in Rochford, has been hard at work planting tulips on the field next door to the huge Sutton Road centre, ready to offer a new experience to visitors this spring.
Last year, farmer Scott travelled to Holland to gather information for his garden centre and Brentwood farm.
Wowed by the sweeping fields blanketed by multi-coloured tulips, Scott came home to south Essex inspired to start his own.

A spokesman for Scott’s of Southend said: “Inspired by his spring travels to Holland last year, Farmer Scott is bringing the magic and colour of tulips to Essex!
“Get ready for bold spring colour, fresh air and a beautiful new experience right on your doorstep with locations at the garden centre and our sister site in Brentwood Farmer Scott’s.”
Currently, the closest tulip field to Essex is at Hatter’s Farm near Bishop’s Stortford.
This will be the only one of its kind in south Essex.
More details on opening dates and events will be released in the coming months as work continues on the tulip field experience.

The new addition comes among a raft of arrivals to the larger than life garden centre, including the opening of The Works book shop and clothing brand Raging Bull inside the venue, as well as new soft play and aquatic centres.
This is all made possible thanks to the 65 staff working around the clock at the centre, Scott says.
Last year, Scott’s hosted it “biggest ever scale” of seasonal events which included the new Light Up The Night winter trail which boasted more than a million lights.
The centre is planning another huge events calendar this year, which includes Meet The Farm Animals, Mayhem and Magic shows and Mother’s Day afternoon teas.
Little City, its new soft play centre, will take the keys for the base at the back of the Scott’s of Southend building on January 26, and after a brief install, is expected to open by the middle of February.
