A MANHUNT is underway after attempted robbers who posed as plain clothed police officers used blue lights to pull a woman over on the A127.

It was reported a woman in her 50s had pulled over on slip-road on the London-bound A127 from the A128 in Brentwood, at around 4.15pm on Saturday December 27.

It was reported she had stopped in response to a vehicle behind her displaying blue lights.

Two men presented themselves as plain clothed officers and attempted to rob her when she asked them for ID.

However, she was able to drive away.

The men are both described as being white, average build and clean shaven.

One is described as being 5ft 6ins tall wearing a black hoodie with the hood up and black trousers.

The other is described as 5ft 8ins tall and wearing a black hoodie with the hood down, and black trousers.

The vehicle is described as a hatchback, possibly a Ford Mondeo.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "We know this incident is likely to cause some concern but we want to reassure you – if you are stopped by a plain clothed officer in an unmarked vehicle, they will present their ID without being asked.

"If you are still unsure you can call us to check the identity of the person who has stopped you.

"If you have any information, CCTV, dash cam or other footage in relation to this incident, then please get in contact with us.

"Please quote the crime reference number 42/1119/26."
