A steam train starring in one of the world’s most hotly anticipated television productions was recently confirmed to make an appearance in Essex.
The Hogwarts Express from the upcoming Harry Potter television series will feature at Epping Ongar Railway’s annual Steam Gala from April 17 to 19.
The locomotive, 6989 Wightwick Hall, is a Great Western Railway Modified Hall class engine and will appear in red livery alongside the original 4953 Pitchford Hall at the three-day event.
Tickets are now on sale through the Epping Ongar Railway website or by calling 01277 365200, and include unlimited travel on all trains and vintage London bus services for the day.

Tickets are priced as follows:
- Adult day tickets: £27
- Child day tickets (ages 3–15): £10
- Family day tickets (2 adults and up to 3 children): £70
- Children under 3: free
Two-day tickets are available for Friday, April 17 and are priced at:
- Adult: £45
- Child: £18
- Family: £120
Tickets are sent by email and can be shown on a phone or printed out for entry.
Visitors can purchase tickets on the day, but prices will be higher, with adult tickets at £28.50, child tickets at £11, and family tickets at £75.
The event will feature additional attractions, including heritage buses linking Ongar, North Weald, Epping Underground, and Shenfield National Rail stations.
A spokesman for the Epping Ongar Railway said: "Our annual steam gala will feature locomotives from the home fleet, alongside some Great Western workhorses.
"Join us for three days of intensive steam action with the locomotives being put through their paces over some of the most challenging gradients in preservation."
