The Towngate Theatre is preparing for a varied run of family shows, live music and classical performance as its late‑winter programme gathers pace.
While many more events are scheduled across the season, these five productions stand out among the highlights arriving over the coming weeks.
A youth production of Disney’s Frozen JR! opens the run from Wednesday, February 25 to Saturday, February 28, 2026.
Presented by Your Time to Shine, the show brings the world of Arendelle to the stage with young performers telling the well‑known story of Elsa, Anna and their friends.
The production is licensed through Musical Theatre International.
On Saturday, February 28, 2026, the theatre hosts Sky Full of Stars – A Tribute to Coldplay, offering a concert-style celebration of the band’s biggest hits.
The show aims to recreate the atmosphere of a modern Coldplay tour, complete with LED wristbands and large-scale visuals.
Songs such as Viva La Vida, A Sky Full of Stars, Yellow and Paradise form the core of a set designed to appeal to long-term fans as well as casual listeners.
The music continues on Saturday, March 14, 2026 with The Magic of Motown, a touring production that has been seen by large audiences across the UK.
The show revisits the classic era of Motown, featuring songs made famous by artists including Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye, The Supremes,
The Temptations and The Jackson 5. With a focus on nostalgia and high-energy performance, it offers a retrospective of a defining musical genre.
Opera returns on Thursday, March 19, 2026 as Dnipro Opera presents Madama Butterfly, sung in Italian with English surtitles.
Accompanied by a live orchestra of more than 30 musicians, the production tells Puccini’s tragic story of a young Japanese woman whose marriage to an American naval officer leads to devastating consequences.
The company brings its established operatic style back to Basildon for this one‑night performance.
Rounding off the selection is Ed Sheeran Experience on Friday, March 20, 2026.
Featuring Jack Shepherd, who has portrayed the singer since 2014, the show replicates Ed Sheeran’s signature loop‑pedal setup and acoustic style.
The setlist draws from well‑known hits performed live with close attention to musical detail.
These events offer a mix of music, drama and family theatre as the Towngate’s season continues.
