An enforcement notice has been issued to a former pub in Chadwell Heath which is reportedly being used as a house in multiple occupation (HMO) and a place of worship.

The details of the notice served to The Harrow in Billet Road have been uploaded to the publicly available enforcement register on Be First's, Barking & Dagenham Council's regeneration arm, website.

The Harrow is understood to have closed in February 2022.

Following the closure, the venue was actively marketed for continued use as a watering hole.

Past planning documents linked to the pub claim that despite the opportunity, there has been "no interest from any party" to take over the running of the site.

It is alleged that the use of The Harrow from a public house has since been changed into a mixed use "without planning permission".

This "unauthorised" change, the council believes, is linked to its use as a place of worship and an HMO.

The notice served to the address came into effect on February 6, beginning a six month countdown for compliance with orders made as part of the enforcement action.

Four steps must be taken, including stopping the use of the site as a place of worship and HMO.

Fixtures and fittings that have facilitated the reported mixed use must be removed, and all related waste material from the premises must also be removed and disposed of.
