An entire school in Leigh was transformed into a hub of creativity as pupils took part in a special art-themed day shaped by their own ideas.

West Leigh Junior School hosted the event after pupils on the School Council shared their desire for more choice and freedom in their artistic experiences.

The dedicated Art Day saw children spend the whole day exploring creativity, stepping away from traditional classroom routines.

Pupils were given the opportunity to choose from more than 20 artistic techniques, allowing them to tailor their learning to their own interests.

Activities included silk printing, quilling, environmental art, sugar-craft, mosaics, junk modelling and digital art.

The approach encouraged independence and creativity, with pupils able to develop new skills while expressing themselves in different ways.

One of the key highlights of the day was the opportunity for children to work with peers from across different year groups.

Teachers said this helped build confidence, collaboration and a stronger sense of community within the school.

Classrooms and corridors were filled with activity as pupils experimented with materials and techniques, creating a wide variety of artwork.

Staff said the level of enthusiasm and engagement from pupils was clear throughout the day.

The event was designed not only to promote creativity but also to give children a greater sense of ownership over their learning.

Organisers described the results as impressive, with each child producing a unique piece of work to take pride in.

"It was wonderful to see creativity flourish in so many different forms and to witness the joy that comes from having the freedom to explore and express ideas.

"We are incredibly proud of how the children embraced this opportunity and we are confident that this inspiring day will remain a treasured memory for many years to come."
