A pair of ambitious teenage entrepreneurs have opened a new nightclub in south Essex with the goal to "bring energy back into the high street".

Exposure, Canvey’s new food and nightlife venue, officially opened on Friday, June 12 at 2 Furtherwick Road, bringing a fresh approach to the island's nightlife.

Run by 18-year-old Brandon-Cruz Attreed and 19-year-old James Young, the venue offers premium coffee, croissants, pastries and pizzeria-style food during the day before turning into a lively bar at night with music, cold draft lagers and fine wines in a relaxed social space.

On weekends, Exposure brings back the energy of "proper DJing", with Friday and Saturday nights dedicated to dance music, entertainment and a safe, exciting atmosphere where residents can enjoy a night out until 2am.

In a joint statement, they said: "We wanted to create something positive for Canvey. It’s about bringing people together, giving young people opportunities, creating jobs and helping put energy back into the high street.

"We want Exposure to be somewhere people can enjoy themselves from breakfast through to late-night entertainment. A place where you can come for coffee, food, drinks, music, dancing, or just a relaxed evening with friends."

Brandon and James were motivated to start this venture to support the community and bring back some of the club-style energy Canvey was missing.

The team behind Exposure believe Canvey deserves a venue that feels modern, welcoming and aspirational — somewhere that offers the experience of going out without people needing to travel off the island.

Customer service, safety, and strong management are core principles for the Exposure team, who hope the venue will be a place where guests feel confident and cared for.

Brandon and James continued: "Customer experience is at the heart of everything we are building. We want people to feel safe, looked after, and welcome from the moment they walk through the door. We want it to feel premium but still friendly and local.

"We are incredibly proud of our achievement and excited to give back to Canvey Island, a place that’s exciting and passionate about quality and music."

The co-founders want the venue to serve as a hub not just for nightlife, but for personal development and engagement.

The team plans to offer opportunities to emerging DJs, performers, bar staff, and kitchen staff, helping young people gain experience in a professional setting.
