A NEW river cruise from Southend is proving so popular that extra dates have been added.

Jetstream Tours has introduced three additional dates for its Southend Pier to Rochester river trips, with Thursday sailings now available on July 30, August 13, and August 27.

The new dates join the existing schedule of Sunday departures, running until September 13, to meet growing demand for the Thames and Medway cruises.

Passengers board at the pier head, with the boat leaving at 10.45am and returning at 7pm.

They are given four hours to explore Rochester, the historic Kent town known as "Dickens country".

Rochester is famous for its castle, cathedral, and connections to one of the world's best-known authors Charles Dickens.

Dickens grew up in the area and immortalized its streets in novels such as Great Expectations and The Mystery of Edwin Drood.

The cruise takes visitors through the estuary and up the River Medway, passing Chatham Dockyard, Upnor Castle, and other points of interest.

Fares include pier entry and use of the pier train.

Tickets are priced at £42.40 for adults, £29.68 for children, £36.04 for OAPs, and £127.20 for a family ticket.

Jetstream Tours launched the Rochester service on May 31.

Other popular trips from Southend Pier include excursions to the Red Sand Towers—Second World War Maunsell sea forts—as well as the Shivering Sand Towers and Knock John Towers.

The company also offers trips to Queenborough, giving passengers up to four hours on return trips to enjoy the Kent fishing village before returning to Southend.

Onboard facilities include a bar serving soft drinks and light snacks, and a toilet.

Jetstream Tours recommends passengers arrive 30 to 45 minutes before departure to allow time to travel down the pier.
