Car hits The Anchor Inn pub, Benfleet, following crash

The collision happened at the Anchor Inn in Benfleet on Essex Way at around 5.45pm and involved two vehicles, one of which crashed into the pub itself.

Firefighters from Grays and Rayleigh Weir attended the scene, where one person was reported trapped.

An Essex Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 5.45pm to the Anchor Inn, Essex Way in Benfleet, to a two-vehicle collision, one of which was in collision with the pub.

"One person was trapped but managed to free themselves and two casualties were passed to the ambulance service.

"Fire crews remain at the scene."

The incident led to significant traffic disruption, with Essex Way and High Road blocked at Cemetery Corner.

Long delays were reported in the surrounding area, particularly near Benfleet Station.

Motorists were advised to seek alternative routes.
