Aldi temporarily axes best-selling wine ahead of World Cup semi-final
Aldi has now temporarily removed its best-selling Argentinian Malbec from UK stores in a display of "patriotic solidarity".
The move comes ahead of England's 2026 FIFA World Cup semi-final clash against Argentina.
Shoppers visiting Aldi's wine aisle on Wednesday (July 15) will be met with empty shelves where the popular red wine usually sits.
The wine will be replaced by a sign, which reads: "We have removed our Argentinian Malbec from the shelves in solidarity ahead of the game tomorrow. It’s coming home!"

An Aldi spokesperson added: "Whether it’s a tactical substitution or the ultimate superstition, the sign encourages shoppers to bench their usual Argentinian reds for alternative bottles to toast Thomas Tuchel’s men tomorrow night."
The unusual move has been met with amusement from shoppers, who took to social media to share their reactions.
One person said: "Hahahahha love this."
Another added: "Patriotism before Profit. Well done @aldiuk."
