A gas leak which forced the evacuation of around 45 residents has now been resolved.
The incident took place on Southend Road in Billericay, where residents were evacuated yesterday afternoon as a precaution while crews worked to fix the leak.
Basildon Council confirmed this morning that the gas has been safely capped, electricity had been restored to all affected properties, and all responding agencies had since stood down.
The council thanked Essex Fire and Rescue Service, Cadent, UK Power Networks, and other partner agencies for their work.
Station manager Mat Bannon said last night: "About 45 residents have been evacuated as a precaution and we would like to thank them for their patience."
The council also thanked residents for their cooperation during the emergency works.

A spokesman for the council said: "We are also grateful to residents for their patience and understanding while emergency works were carried out to ensure everyone's safety."
Cadent said yesterday that the gas pipe had been damaged by contactors on a development site in South Green.
They urged residents to avoid the area and keep windows and doors closed as they received "a number of calls from the area" reporting the smell of gas.
The emergency gas service also visited every property where they received a smell of gas report in case they had a "gas escape" in their home, and to ensure it is not related to the damaged pipe.
