Classic Jets Day with Avro Vulcan at Southend Airport

The Visit the Vulcan Classic Jets Day took place at London Southend Airport on Sunday and gave visitors the chance to get up close to the Avro Vulcan XL426.

The event featured a range of historic military vehicles, including wartime tanks and army displays, alongside classic cars from the East Anglia MG Classic Car Club.

Visitors were also able to climb into five preserved military aircraft cockpits, including those from an English Electric Canberra, Blackburn Buccaneer, Hawker Hunter, de Havilland Vampire and SEPECAT Jaguar.

The Southend Vulcan was joined by a BAC Jet Provost and a restored Westland Scout helicopter, which carried out ground engine runs throughout the day.

Families enjoyed live music from the Chelmsford Silver Band, which performed in front of the Vulcan inside the hangar.

There were also displays from the Shoebury and South Essex Royal Artillery Association, the Southend Radio Controlled Model Flying Club and a selection of airport and historic fire engines.

Characters from Star Wars and Marvel and DC comic universes also entertained visitors.
