A camp set up by travellers at a park on Canvey has been confirmed as "unauthorised" by the council.
Several caravans were seen pitching up on the grass at Wooden Park near Thorney Bay Beach after reportedly arriving this afternoon.
At least nine vehicles were seen on what is the second encampment on the island this week.
Councillor Michael Fuller, Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “We have been made aware of unauthorised encampment near Thorney Bay Beach.
"Essex Police have been informed and we are working with Essex County Council’s Essex County Traveller Unit (ECTU) to resolve the situation as soon as possible.”

Travellers allegedly broke into Lubbins Car Park off Eastern Esplanade on Monday.
Residents claimed the height restriction barrier, which was left out of position, was broken by the group in order for them to get their vehicles through the entrance.
Castle Point Council confirmed that encampment was not authorised and threatened legal action.
Businesses said they had closed temporarily in the past when travellers camped by the seafront, but no trouble had been caused this time.
The Eastern Esplanade travellers left on Wednesday.
