A new reformer Pilates studio is set to open in a south Essex high street as plans have been submitted to transform a former bank.
The proposal relates to the former Halifax branch at 110 High Street in Billericay, which closed in 2020 and has remained vacant ever since.
Submitted by Clare Lanham, the plans seek approval for new signage at the building, now known as Old Bank House, ahead of its planned opening as a BED reformer Pilates studio.
BED is a music-led reformer Pilates concept that combines low-impact exercise with a more energetic workout style.
The business is already operating a successful studio in Laindon, which opened last year and has proved popular with fitness enthusiasts.
Promotional material released by the company says the Billericay venue will feature six reformer beds and aims to create a new fitness community in the town centre.
Work is currently underway inside the building, with the studio hoping to open on October 1.
In a social media announcement, the company said: “Billericay… your new workout is coming.

The business says classes are designed for all abilities, from complete beginners to experienced reformer Pilates users.
The company added: “At BED, we move to music. We build strength. We sculpt. We shake.
“It’s a low-impact, full-body workout designed to challenge you without needing to be super fit, super flexible or know your way around a Reformer before you walk through the door.”
The opening will bring a new use to one of Billericay High Street's most recognisable vacant buildings.
The former Halifax branch served customers for years before closing as part of wider changes to the banking sector.
BED says it has already received significant interest from residents keen to find out what is moving into the building.
A spokesman for BED added: “It’s been so lovely having people stop outside, pop their heads in and ask what’s coming while we’ve been working.
“We’ve had so many nice chats already and it’s made the whole thing feel really exciting.
"We can’t wait to welcome you in."
