The A120 has been closed eastbound near Braintree this afternoon following an 'incident', causing severe delays through the town and on surrounding routes.
The closure is in place between Galleys Corner and the Marks Farm roundabout, which connects with the A131.
Traffic is queuing back beyond King William, while congestion is also affecting routes through Braintree town centre.
The nature of the incident has not yet been confirmed.
Drivers are being urged to avoid the area where possible, allow extra time for their journeys, and use alternative routes.
