Search the Public Notice PortalMore than 100 residents joined a community walk in Southend to show their support for protecting green belt land from future development.
Around 120 people took part in the event organised by the Save Bournes Green Chase Green Belt group, including members of the SMILE walking group and Love Bournes Green Park.
Participants walked across fields at Bournes Green Chase which are at the centre of plans for 2,000 homes that were recently refused by Southend Council's planning committee.
Campaigners also discussed proposals by Bellway for a further 3,000 homes and the council's emerging local plan, which will be subject to consultation.
Former Southend councillor and member of the Save Bournes Green green belt campaign group, Tricia Cowdrey, said the turnout demonstrated the strength of community feeling.
She added: “Residents are keen to come together to protect our green belt for future generations.
“We hope to hold another walk in a month or so, after our public meeting to discuss next steps.”
