Liverpool Street man arrested for attempted murder

The incident took place at Liverpool Street Underground station at 10.51pm on Sunday, August 30.

A majority of Essex to London trains go to the major station.

British Transport Police said officers responded to reports of a serious assault and found a man in his 30s with life-threatening head injuries on the Central line platform.

He was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

A 38-year-old man was arrested in east London the following evening and remains in custody.

Detective Superintendent Sam Blackburn said: "This is a key step in our investigation, which continues to progress at pace.

"Based on our enquiries to date, we are not seeking to identify anyone else in connection with this incident.

"Our thoughts remain the victim and his family at this difficult time.

"They are being supported by specialist officers.

"We are still keen to hear from anyone who saw what happened and has not yet spoken to police.

"If you were on the Central Line platforms between 10.30pm and 11pm and have information, please come forward."
