Basildon knife incidents see two men arrested in 24 hours

Two men have been arrested in Basildon in connection with knife offences following separate incidents within 24 hours.

The first arrest took place near Gordon Road shortly before 7pm on Thursday, September 10, after reports of a man carrying a knife.

A knife was recovered nearby.

A 19-year-old from Eastwood has since been charged with possession of a knife or bladed article in a public place.

He is due to appear in court next month.

The second arrest occurred today (Friday, September 11), after reports of a disturbance and a man carrying a knife in Southernhay.

A man in his 20s from Basildon was arrested and remains in custody for questioning.

Inspector Luke Gamman of the Basildon Local Policing Team said: "We simply don’t tolerate violence or people threatening violence in Basildon.

“This weekend, additional policing resources will be deployed across the district.

"We understand incidents of this nature can cause concern within our communities, and we encourage anyone with questions or concerns to speak to our officers, who will be out and about providing reassurance and support."

Enquiries remain ongoing.
