Emergency services were called to Benfleet Road, near Shipwrights Drive, at around 8.30am today.

The fire service, ambulances and police all reportedly attended and the road was blocked, causing heavy traffic to build in both directions.

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called just after 8.30am to a road traffic collision on the junction of Shipwrights Drive and Benfleet Road in Benfleet.

"Two ambulances were sent to the scene and one patient was transported to Southend University Hospital for further assessment and treatment."

Traffic has since cleared on the route following the incident.
