A POPULAR village pub is set to reopen its doors once again in the coming weeks under new leadership, following a period of closures and changes in ownership.

The Lion in Earls Colne has announced that it will be reopening soon under new ownership, bringing the much-loved village pub back to the community after its recent closures and changes.

The pub announced on its new Facebook page on Wednesday, September 16, that it would be reopening soon, although no exact date has been confirmed.

The announcement was accompanied by a photograph of the new owners.

"We’re very excited to announce that The Lion in Earls Colne will soon be reopening its doors under new ownership!

"There’s plenty happening behind the scenes as we get everything ready, and we can’t wait to welcome the local community back through the doors.

"Our aim is simple, to create a welcoming local pub where you can pop in for a drink, enjoy good food, catch up with friends and family and feel right at home.

"We’ll be sharing lots more over the coming weeks, including introducing the team, giving you a look behind the scenes and, of course, announcing that all-important opening date! Plus a few special offers along the way…

"We’ve had to set up brand new social pages so make sure you’re following this page so you don’t miss any updates and please help us spread the word by sharing this post.

"The Lion is coming back to Earls Colne!"

The bar previously closed in August 2024 citing "challenging circumstances" and was subsequently revived in September later that year by Karen Leach and her daughter, Charlotte and son, Harry.

The family were the owners of the former award-winning pie company Hoskyn’s Deli in Maldon.

The business was well known for its terrace, kitchen and bar, serving classic pub dishes alongside pizzas cooked in a large wood-fired pizza oven.

The Lion has been contacted for further comment.
