Three people have been released on bail after they were arrested in connection with an attack and robbery in Basildon.

A man was assaulted and robbed at about 1.50pm on Wednesday at a house on Church Road, Pitsea.

The victim and suspects fled, but Essex Police later arrested a 32-year-old Basildon woman, a 23-year-old Harwich man and a 22-year-old man of no fixed abode.

Police confirmed the three were released on bail until December.

Armed officers and a police helicopter surrounded the property, where officers forced open the door and pointed guns towards the house, witnesses said.

Police closed the road beside Fairhouse Community Primary School during the arrests, disrupting parents collecting their children.

Residents said it was not the first time people had been arrested on the street, and one said she was "not surprised" by the police presence.

A police spokesperson urged anyone with information to come forward.

They said: "Please contact us quoting incident 642 of Wednesday 1 October."

Details on contacting police are available at www.essex.police.uk.
