Residents across Basildon are being encouraged to prepare for unexpected disruption as part of a national campaign.

Basildon Council is supporting the Government’s "Be Ready" campaign, which outlines practical steps households can take during emergencies.

Storms and other incidents can disrupt phones, water, electricity and internet services.

Residents who may require additional assistance are being encouraged to check their eligibility for the free Priority Services Register.

Those eligible may include people of pensionable age, people with long-term illnesses and families with children under five.

Andy Barnes, leader of Basildon Council, said: “Being ready starts with small, practical steps.

“Thinking ahead about how you would manage without essential services and checking whether you or someone you know could benefit from the free Priority Services Register, can make a real difference.”
