A dog featured on Pete Wicks' television programme is among five residents seeking homes at Dogs Trust Basildon.

Tetley, Hudson, Tosh, Elton and Polly are currently being cared for at the Basildon centre while they wait for the perfect forever home.

Each dog has different needs, and potential adopters will need to consider whether they can provide the right home, training and support.

More information about each, including how to apply to rehome a dog, is available at dogstrust.org.uk/rehoming/dogs.

Tetley

Terrier (Staffordshire Bull) CrossStar - Tetley was featured in Pete Wicks: For Dogs' Sake

Tetley, a star dog in Pete Wicks: For Dogs' Sake, is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross who lost a leg as a puppy and was born deaf.

The charity describes him as clever and affectionate. He enjoys food and, once he knows someone, likes sitting on the sofa and being cuddled. However, he can take time to trust people and may be worried by strangers, particularly children.

Because he is deaf and can be startled easily, Tetley will need to remain on a lead and wear a muzzle in public. He also needs a private, secure garden and a home without children or other pets.

Potential adopters will need to visit the centre several times to meet him. He is looking for a calm, patient and understanding home.

Hudson

RottweilerCheeky - Hudson has lots of love to give

Hudson is a three-year-old Rottweiler who forms strong bonds with people once he knows them. He enjoys being close to his owners and likes food, which can help with positive training.

He travels well in a car and would enjoy outdoor activities. Hudson needs patient and caring adult adopters, along with a quiet home and a secure private outdoor space.

He must be the only pet and can be wary of strangers and other dogs, so a quieter area would suit him. Hudson is muzzle trained and will need to stay muzzled and on lead in public.

Anyone interested in adopting him will need experience of the breed and a commitment to continuing his training.

Tosh

Labrador Mastiff cross dogPuppy at heart - Tosh gets excited meeting new people

Tosh is a three-year-old Labrador Mastiff cross who remains puppy-like in his behaviour. He becomes excited when meeting people and may jump up to greet them, so he needs adopters who can teach him calmer greetings.

He can also become overexcited around other dogs and may struggle to recognise when play should stop, so continued socialisation will help him learn suitable behaviour.

Tosh must be the only pet in the home and could potentially live with older secondary school-aged children who have experience of very boisterous dogs.

An active household would suit Tosh, as he enjoys exploring and needs plenty of exercise, enrichment and training. With time and commitment, he could become a companion for a family prepared to work with him.

Elton

Pomeranian crossPatience - Elton is looking for calm and gentle adopters

Elton is a three-year-old Pomeranian cross who needs a patient and loving home. He can be shy with new people and prefers a calm approach while he builds confidence.

He is a low-energy dog who would enjoy a couple of short walks each day before relaxing at home. Once settled, he becomes affectionate and enjoys sitting on a lap.

Elton could live with older secondary school-aged children who understand when he needs space. He must also be the only pet in the home and will need positive socialisation because he can become worried and reactive around other dogs.

Chicken is one of his favourite foods and can help with training.

Polly

GreyhoundHappy girl - Polly loves meeting new people

Polly is a two-year-old Greyhound who enjoys people and is settling into kennel life. She can relax in her kennel but becomes excited when it is time to leave.

The pooch is learning to enjoy walks and is making progress. She walks calmly on lead, accepts handling and is comfortable having her harness fitted.

She may live with another Greyhound, subject to a successful meeting at the centre. However, staff have seen her guard toys around her kennel mate, which would need consideration.

Polly could live with primary school-aged children. She may manage short periods alone after settling in, with time built up gradually.
