An Essex council has offered the town centre’s Post Office a new home as the shop currently housing the branch prepares to close.
The Post Office currently operates from TG Jones in the Baytree Centre, which is due to close on January 12.
According to Brentwood Council, the closure forms part of a national decision by the company affecting around 150 shops and 60 Post Offices across the UK.
The council has now stepped in with an offer aimed at keeping Post Office services in Brentwood town centre.
It says the Post Office has been offered a choice of empty units within the Baytree Centre, which could provide a temporary home for the branch until April 2028.
The authority has also offered to help find a permanent location on Brentwood High Street, including by putting the Post Office in touch with local property experts.
However, no move has yet been confirmed, with the council saying it is now up to the Post Office to decide whether to accept the offer.

In a statement, Brentwood Council said: “We know how much people rely on it, for parcels and post, but also paying bills, banking and currency.”
Announcing the proposals, it added: “It’s now up to the Post Office whether to take us up on it. We hope they do, and the door’s open.”
The authority said TG Jones currently contains the only Post Office in Brentwood town centre.
Other Post Office branches in the wider Brentwood area are not affected by the announcement, according to the council.
These are at Eastham Crescent, Ongar Road and Warley Hill.
