A WEEKEND of fundraising for Little Havens children’s hospice has been organised by a Benfleet pub.

The team at the Half Crown pub, in High Street, are organising a weekend of events from Friday, August 1, to Sunday, August 3, to raise cash for the Thundersley charity.

Beginning with a Seventies-themed party on the Friday evening, the pub is inviting people to dress up in their finest gear of the era.

Then, on Saturday, the pub will be decorated for a Eighties-themed party.

On both nights a DJ will be spinning the discs and customers can make a donation in return for hearing their favourite tracks.

On Sunday afternoon, the pub is hosting a barbecue and hog roast lunch suitable for families, with activities and party games to keep children occupied.

Later that evening, manager of the pub, Steve Burgess, has agreed to have a professional body wax in front of all of the pub regulars if they raise more than £500 for the charity.

Mr Burgess said: “We’re a community pub and all our team are eager to raise as much money as possible for Little Havens.

“My own personal vow to have a full body wax started off as a joke, but no sooner had I said it, everyone started putting their hands in their pockets. If they reach the target I’ll have to go through with it!”

Little Havens community fundraiser, Hilary Metcalfe, said: “We’re delighted with the support from the Half Crown.

“I’m sure all of the events at the pub will be lots of fun, while helping to raise important funds which will go towards the support and care we offer to local families with seriously ill children.”
