A 13-YEAR-OLD schoolgirl has organised a charity walk to raise awareness of an incurable condition, which affects her dad and grandad.

Megan Smith, a Sweyne Park School pupil, is walking from Hullbridge to Hockley and back on Sunday to raise money for the fight against Huntington’s Disease.

The little-known degenerative disease affects the nervous system. It is hereditary and makes sufferers lose control of their co-ordination and speech before they succumb to it about ten to 20 years after they are diagnosed.

All donations will go to the National Hospital for Neurology in Queen Square, London, where Megan’s father Gary, 51, and grandad, Victor, 76, are treated.

Gary, who lives in The Drive, said he was very touched by his daughter’s gesture.

He said: “She’s a diamond girl. The hospital are quite in awe of what she’s doing.

“Everyone at the hospital are heroes. Anything we can do to help, we will.”

The walk, which Gary and Megan’s mum, Carol, are also taking part in, starts at the Anchor pub, Hullbridge, at 9am.
