CRUISIN’ for a Bluesin’ promise to give your lugholes a musical bullying at Blues at the Farm, Billericay, on Saturday afternoon.
This five-piece has a wealth of experience and a set-list to match, ranging from instrumental jams with distinct Latin tendencies, to tunes by Ray Charles, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Fats Domino and Willie Dixon.
Frontman, vocalist, harp player and percussionist, John “Smiggy” Smyth, keeps things rolling behind an array of microphones, drums and other percussion instruments, backed by four other veteran players.
Chris Pearson displays his skills on a selection of guitars, while keyboard man Gary Howard demonstrates a breadth of musical range, switching between jazz, Latin, boogie and blues.
The rhythm section is a long-term partnership – friends Ray Marquis on drums and Bernie Brewster on bass. All four lads muck in with backing vocals, too.
All the band have strong musical pedigrees having worked in groups such as Zeus Blues, Victor Brox’s Blues Train, Easy Money, the Cadillac Kings and Temperton Bones, over the years.
Saturday afternoon’s session at Barleylands Social Club, next to the council recycling depot, in Barleylands Road, Billericay starts at 2pm. Admission is £5 for members, £5.50 non-members and you can sign up on the day. For more information, visit www.bluesatthefarm.co.uk
