Where does S Mills (Jan 26) get the idea that lights will have traffic “flooding” through Cuckoo Corner, Prittlewell, and if it did, where would it go?

The tailbacks would form at Sutton Road and the Bell as they do now, only worse!

When I stood and watched traffic at the junction the only time the roundabout clogged up was when the traffic was backed up from the Bell, which has lights.

But S Mills’ star idea is to take money away from safety measures around our schools and spend it on some mythical improvement to journeys to and from Shoebury.

The traffic and parking working party, which includes councillors from all political groups and Keymed, is looking at proposals for traffic calming measures around Earls Hall Schools and safe crossings on Prittlewell Chase for the students at Southend High for Boys and The Chase.

These will never, ever be sacrificed to save commuters time on their journeys, not even for measures that might work.

It’s good to have residents joining in the debate on road improvements, but I’d love to hear from residents of Prittlewell, St Luke’s and St Laurence wards who can take a balanced and informed view on their own area.

...A traffic light system will not work at Cuckoo Corner, Southend.

The old Sutton Road/Eastern Avenue light system caused no end of accidents and hold ups in the Eighties.

To think that placing a lights system at probably a worse place than Sutton Road is absolutely crazy. It will create havoc.

Throw out the idea now!
