A METAL container was set alight at roadworks in Rayleigh.
Firefighters arrived at 12.15am and spent an hour tackling the flames in Eastern Avenue which came from a blue container at the roadside.
The container was full of machinery used for the roadworks. It was surrounded by hoarding which also caught alight.
