STATUS Quo fans attending the rescheduled gigs at the Cliffs Pavilion next week get the added treat of watching a bright new talent.

Luke White, 20, supports the old rockers in Westcliff, on Tuesday and Wednesday, playing a set of atmospheric bluesy-pop and rock.

He will be performing songs from his unnamed debut album, due for release later this year, including the guitar-lick-laden Stupid Kind of Love, the more bluesy Held Love in My Hand and the big sound of Maybe She is Magic.

Singer Luke also plays guitar and is accompanied by James Drohan on drums, Dan Hawkins on bass, Matt Condon on keyboards and Ben Fawson on guitar. The quintet opened for Outmatch in Germany earlier this year before their UK debut at Wireless, in London’s Hyde Park.

“It was great to play on such a big stage with big lights and a big sound,” says Luke.

“Hyde Park is quite near where I grew up and I used to go there every day, so it was like doing a gig in your back garden. I can’t wait to come to Southend and I am so lucky to have this opportunity. Status Quo are rock legends.”

Tickets are still available for this gig, priced £31.50. Call 01702 351135.
