DENNY Newman and the Regulars bring a bit of musical pedigree to Blues at the Farm, Billericay, on Saturday afternoon.
As a singer, songwriter and guitarist during the Seventies, Denny worked with Manfred Mann and the Pirates, before recording his own solo albums.
He also penned Lies for Manfred Mann during the Eighties, which under its many different release guises has sold more than 1 million records.
Denny’s first album, Bless Tupelo, was recorded in 1990 and sold out of its original pressings.
Five years later, Denny released another long play offering, Noah’s Great Rainbow. Tired of the normal “my woman left me and I’m broke” lyrics, he penned songs about house repossession, stealth taxes and brought his style of blues into the modern world.
The new album, Sleepwalking, is now finished, boasting ten original songs and the inclusion of keyboard maestro Max Middleton adding a slight jazz sprinkling. Joining Denny and Max are bassist Scott Newman and drummer Jeff Allen.
This band has a rich musical history, with members having worked with Jeff Beck, John Martyn, Chris Rea, Cat Stevens and the Blues Band.
For this gig, Denny has recruited Brenden O’Neill, Rory Gallagher’s former drummer.
Admission is £5 for members, £5.50 non members and doors at the Barleylands Social Club open at 2pm. For more information, visit www.bluesatthefarm.co.uk
