A couple of weeks ago my husband and I visited Paul Van Looy’s fish and chip shop in Clifftown Road, Southend, for the first time.

The first thing we noticed was the utter cleanliness of this place. Then, we were really impressed with the fish and chip meal we had. So well cooked, presented and served.

So seeing the front page of the Echo, Chippie Owner Paul In a Pickle Over Revamp, we were shocked (Jan 28).

Please councillor Anna Waite don’t let anything stop this restaurant remaining open.

Everybody we have spoken to in our circle of friends agrees with us. This place deserves five stars for food, decor, service and even the toilets. We’re rooting for Paul Van Looy.
