staff were celebrating after their pub was named the best in south east Essex.
The Horse and Groom, in Southend Road, Rochford, was awarded Pub of the Year 2009, by the South East Essex branch of the Campaign for Real Ale.
The award was presented to landlord Danny Murley, licensee Carley Gibson and bar manager Kevin Hartley.
Mr Murley, who has been landlord for the past 18 months, said: “We are absolutely delighted. The staff are all really pleased.
“I’d like to compliment them all, especially Kevin the cellarman.
“He has to be one of the best I know. Camra is all about the beer and how it’s looked after.
“I’d like to thank everyone who voted for us.”
Last year, the pub was named town pub of the year by the Camra branch.
Camra spokesman Maggie Osborn said: “The pub is always popular with real ale drinkers with six beers, including those from local, Essex brewers, to choose from.”
Among the local beers on offer are Mighty Oak and Brentwood.
