A CONCERT will see the renowned Leigh Orpheus Male Voice Choir show off their talent while raising money for a hospice.
The singers will be performing a range of show-stopping musical classics on Saturday, at Basildon’s Towngate Theatre. Money raised will go to St Luke’s hospice, Basildon.
Bass singer Malcolm Bridges said: “We are a large choir, and will have 80 on stage for this performance. We have had more than 100 on stage for concerts before.
“We are going to be singing a range of music and launching a CD. Some of the music will be songs from Oliver and Kings of Swing. We have traditional music right through to more modern songs, such as You Raise Me Up.
“This concert will be raising money for St Luke’s, which needs money to survive. We have raised a lot of money for charity in the past and are hoping to do so again this time.”
The choir, which has more than 100 members, has sung in Wales, Spain and Tuscany. In January, they performed in a sell-out concert at the Cliffs Pavilion, Westcliff, with special guest, Aled Jones.
Later they took part in two concerts as part of the Anglo Welsh Festival of Male Choirs, held in Birmingham and Wales.
The choir is also planning a tour to Altea, on the Spanish Costa Brava, in October. Tickets for the Towngate cost £15, and the performance starts at 7.30pm.
