DELIGHTED Florence Beament was joined by family and friends to celebrate her landmark 100th birthday.

Florence, of Lower Road, Hullbridge, reached the milestone in style with a packed party at Wickford Cricket Club.

Among the scores of presents Florence received were a number of thriller novels on tape.

Niece Kathy Deller, 65, who looks after Florence, said: “She loves her story book tapes. They’re great for her, because her sight is poor. She listens to pretty much anything, but she particularly likes thrillers.”

Guests came from far and wide to attend the party, with one of Florence’s nieces even jetting in from California.

Kathy added: “Everyone had a wonderful time, it was a night to remember. Florence is just a lovely person – easy to be around and everyone gets on with her so well.”

Florence, who lived in Islington, London, for most of her life where she worked as a machinist, moved to Hullbridge two years ago to live with Kathy and her family.
