When Canvey Town Council does something it seems to be about planting trees or tidying the seafront. Now it wants to spend nearly a million pounds on the lake. If this is all the council is interested in, disband it.

To make a real difference it needs to focus on more facilities for young adults and address the lack of accommodation for those starting out in life.

There is a development for sale in Long Road that has 34 empty flats. I challenge both councils to work together to use this money as part payment towards the purchase of this property, finish the work and allow these properties to be rented by local families.

The flats are already built and are there waiting for people to move in. They would go some way towards meeting council housing targets.

Places to live are more important than a lake.
