The seemingly ageless Teddy Sheringham proved to be the architect of West Ham's 2-1 victory at Wigan, and drew more praise from manager Alan Pardew.
Sheringham, who turns 40 this week, clambered off the bench to set up Nigel Reo-Coker's stoppage time winner and ensure a happy conclusion to a momentous week for the club.
And Pardew, who admitted his side were fortunate to take three points from a game where they mustered just two shots on target, was delighted to have his qualities available to boost his side.
"I could feel that superman glare of his burning into the back of my neck as the game went on," said the boss.
"He wanted to get out there and try to make something happen for us. He knows he has competition from three top strikers and he's been totally professional at this club."
