A SUPERFIT postman is tackling his second London Marathon in memory of his son, who died from an epileptic seizure aged just 25.

Colin Rothwell, 56, is running the 26.2-mile course on April 25 to raise money for charity Epilepsy Bereaved, which works to prevent sudden unexpected death in epilepsy, after the death of his son Grant in December 2008.

Grant, a former pupil at Cedar Hall school in Thundersley, and Greensward Academy, in Hockley, died from a seizure in his sleep after the family had returned from a trip to Majorca to watch Mr Rothwell run in a marathon.

A member of Benfleet Running Club, Mr Rothwell, who works as a postman in Hockley, ran the London marathon last year in just two hours 54 minutes to raise £3,500 for the charity.

Mr Rothwell, of Brookside, Hawkwell, said: “I am running to really help raise awareness for other people.

“Grant suffered from epilepsy from the age of nine, and I personally wasn’t expecting it to take his life.

“Since getting in touch with the charity, we’ve found there are an awful lot of youngsters who are about Grant’s age this has happened to.

“Three people a day are dying from this, so every little helps.”
