How is it Basildon Council can find £175,000 to spend on already overfunded Lake Meadows in Billericay, yet is unable to spend a single penny on the grossly under-funded Victoria Park in Laindon?
In fact, the council even misappropriated the section 106 money from developers, meant to be spent in Laindon, on the sporting village and for a recreation ground in Langdon Hills.
Whenever I visit Lake Meadows, I am impressed with the beautiful tennis courts and immaculately mown grass, all made possible with a recent grant of more than £20,000 from this same “cash-strapped”
council. Every time a developer sets its sights on a piece of land in Laindon, councillors metaphorically rub their hands together, as it means more money by way of section 106 cash to spend anywhere in the district, bar Laindon.
I am aware of the staunch fight put up by a couple of local councillors, but they are overwhelmed by the collective cabinet, which seems to want to see Laindon deteriorate even faster than it is at present.
We all contribute via our council tax and it is time we got a fair deal.
