NEW faces have taken over responsibility for finance and the environment at Rochford District Council following a cabinet reshuffle.

The new portfolio holder for waste and the environment is Michael Steptoe who has taken over the reigns from Michael Starke who retired as a councillor at the local elections.

Finance and resources is now the responsibility of Foulness and Great Wakering member Colin Seagers who replaces Peter Webster.

The reshuffle of the Tory cabinet took place at a district council meeting yesterday evening at the Civic Suite in Hockley Road, Rayleigh. The leader remains Terry Cutmore.

Derek Stansby, the outgoing vice-chairman, was elected as this year’s chairman, with all-party support.

He replaces Tony Humphries and his chosen charity for the year is the British Heart Foundation. Simon Smith was elected to be vice-chairman.

Mr Smith was also elected chairman of the west area committee, while Lucy Cox is chairman for the central committee and Gill Lucas-Gill for the east.
