ONE of south Essex’s best-loved urban music nights is throwing a birthday bash tonight.

Bliss will be celebrating two years on the county’s club scene with a party at Storm, in Southend.

Brotherly DJ duo Jason and Martyn Raby will be headlining the event, which kicks off from 9pm.

The Southend pair, who go by the DJ names Magic J and Playa, started playing over a decade ago and have gone on to play at various nights around Essex such as Twice as Nice, Kinky Malinki and Too Damn Glam.

They will be joined by Wickford-based Bald MC, who has been working the urban club scene in London and Essex since his late teens.

Bald MC has held a number of club residencies including Rewind, Urban Shakedown, No Messing No Kidding, and Messy.

The MC, real name Nav Oojageer, has also set up his own company BaldMC.com, which provides music workshops and urban sports coaching throughout Essex and London.

DJs Darren B, Talis, Courtney Mac, Delinquent and Case MC also join the extensive line-up.

Bliss has been serving up a mixture of funky house, garage, bashment, UK funky and R&B since it launched at Bakers Bar – now Element – in 2008.

The club night has visited many venues across south Essex such as Basildon’s now-closed Sky Bar and Mayhem, in Southend.

It has even been exported out of the county to Hertfordshire, but has mainly been based at Storm.

“We have been showcasing the freshest sounds in the urban genre,” says Jason Raby, who promotes the nights.

Doors to the club, in Elmer Approach, Southend, are open from 9pm to 3am. Entry is £5 all night. Visit www.stormnightclub.com
