I wish to pay tribute to Karon Grant and Colin Millar, two of the team with the responsibility of keeping Southend clean.

It is obvious some residents and visitors take little pride in our environment.

While many find the bins to recycle their rubbish, others do not.

I was one of the team supporting the Kursaal Conservative Future in its efforts to make Kursaal greener, cleaner and safer campaign. Armed with gloves, litter pickers and sacks supplied by Street Clean, I walked along Hartington Road and Pleasant Road and soon was filling my first sack.

I am not criticising the Southend team. No sooner did I pick up rubbish than the wind was blowing more from some of the so-called gardens. I know we live in a throwaway society, but is it too much to ask that all people show greater respect for their environment, that everyone find a bin for all their rubbish?

I understand that if anyone is concerned about any particular property which appears to be used as a rubbish bin and reports it to Karon Grant at Southend Council on 01702 215000, she will organise the Street Clean team to make contact with the owner or landlord and request the area be cleared and cleaned.
