It comes as no surprise to Canvey Coarse Anglers Club that Canvey Town Council will not be starting to de-silt the lake as it requires planning permission.

We were told by Castle Point Council years ago of this requirement. It appears we must wait up to five years before this work is completed.

In the meantime, should the new bylaws be passed, fishing will be restricted to the worst possible area of the lake. Due to this delay we ask that the No Fishing notices be removed and the anglers allowed to continue as before until the de-silting is completed.

We are of the opinion the town council has no intention of de-silting the lake and is using Government spending cuts as an excuse.

While we wait for the results of various expensive surveys and studies, no doubt the planting of trees and flower beds will go ahead. I wonder why?
