Basildon Council has presented the district with a fait accompli regarding the £20million spend on the sporting village.

The Tory administration now has the effrontery to say residents have to prepare themselves for potential cuts. How much of a reserve does the council hold?

How much has it cost the district in IT consultancy fees to come up with a sum of £1million for the computer upgrade?

Why, in the time of an expected aggressive and austere cutback in funding, do they need to replace computers?

What cuts can we expect in other areas?

The elderly and vulnerable residents are already suffering hardships with the deplorable state of their homes.

They can at least expect to be happy that their tales of woe will be adequately and speedily recorded on a machine to be seen by a host of people that can do nothing for them. Hey ho for progress!

...The friends of Northlands Park, Pitsea, would like to say that everything Charles Thomson said (Sept 20) about the behaviour of Basildon’s Conservative councillors was spot on.

From the beginning they have said the land sell-off is not a done deal, but from their attitude all along it seems like it always has been.

They dismiss everything we say, they mock everything we say, they show nothing but boredom for our concerns.
