I agree with Greg Jerome that the levy for late-night policing should be banded and those venues which open later should pay more.

However, I disagree with Colin Lane on his preferred solution of minimum pricing.

He comments: “The problem is caused by people drinking at home” and goes on further. “Most people are bladdered before they get to us and we get aggravation by turning them away.”

I am one of those who drink at home. However, I drink at home as the pubs and bars, especially in Basildon, offer me nothing.

I do not “get bladdered”

then cause trouble. I drink at home then go to bed. Why should I be penalised by having to pay more because the police and the bar owners have lost control of the feral mindless thugs who roam our towns and cities in the early hours of the morning?

Tackle the problem, don’t take it out on me.
